02Context & response
GBV is not a private matter. It is a community and systems challenge.
In the Littoral Region, violence is shaped by patriarchal norms, economic vulnerability, stigma and gaps between formal legal protection and everyday enforcement. Survivors can experience long-term physical trauma, depression, anxiety, social exclusion and financial instability.
Cameroon’s response draws on the Constitution, Penal Code, CEDAW and the Maputo Protocol, with institutions such as MINPROFF, MINAS and the Cameroon Human Rights Commission. CROWG complements this framework through community prevention, safe referrals, advocacy and empowerment.
